(Feb 15, 2018): In today’s time, communication has become one of the most important factors for every aspect of your career and when it comes to a selection in MBA institutes, it becomes even more important. After clearing CAT, GMAT or any other MBA exam, a candidate has to appear for the interview rounds of various MBA institutes.

Nowadays, these institutes do not limit their selection process to the marks scored by candidate but they also check the communication skill of the candidate because a MBA Aspirant needs to have good communication skills to perform well in MBA from a reputed Business school. It is because after an MBA degree, you will have to manage different things at different levels and your communication skill plays an important role there.

As interviews are the final stage for the selection in institutes after clearing the exams, a candidate must work hard to achieve good communication skills. But achieving right communication skill is not a fortnight process; it is a slow and steady process. So, looking at the importance of communication skills to ace MBA interviews, we provide you top seven tips to improve your communication ability. These tips will help the MBA aspirants in fuelling their dreams of becoming effective communicators in management.

Read a lot: Reading is considered very important for improving communication skills. It is always suggested to read more and more for improving your communication. You can pick any magazine, newspaper or a novel and read daily. By reading daily, you will come across several new words which will help you improve your skills as there are many situations when we want to express our feelings but we fall short of words, we don’t get right words to express our feelings. So, to improve your communication skills first thing you should adopt is the habit of reading.

Improve your Vocabulary: Having a good vocabulary always has a chance of improving your communication, so you must work on your vocab power in order to ace in a MBA Interview. You should maintain a copy where you should write each new word you come across along with its meaning, synonyms and antonyms. You must make a habit to study at least study 5 new words daily along with their meanings, antonyms and synonyms. Try to use these in your daily lives.

Be an active Listener: Being a good communicator not only requires good communication skills but also active listening. While being a good communicator, you must be a patient listener too; you must give space to others for expressing their views. If you don’t pay heed to others and do not listen attentively, it gives an impression that you care less about others’ opinions. So, in an MBA interview you must listen to the interviewers and then express your opinions as being a good listener will also help you frame proper sentences.

Take Part in Group Discussions: As it is a well-known fact that practical knowledge of anything is more beneficial, you can take a topic and practice group discussions with your friends, family. This will provide you an actual situation where you can find out how well are you in putting your views. This will also do away your fear of communicating with people. Make it a regular exercise; it will surely help you a lot.

Body Language and Delivery: Body language and delivery is also one of the important factors while communicating. The interviewers examine your body language, your expressions, and your confidence during the interview, so you must possess proper body language and should have perfect speech delivery. Many a times, a person is not able to sync his actions with his speech; one should also know to communicate through his actions. A person should confidant while putting forward his views.

Be Pertinacious: You should be persistent towards improving your communication skills. You should not stop after a few days as improving communication skills is a slow process. You will have to be determined in following all the steps like reading, group discussions for improving your skills.

Stay Positive and Patient: If you don’t see much improvement in your communication skills after a few days, don’t get disheartened and stay positive towards achieving your best. Do not panic if you see others communicating more fluently than you. As already mentioned, you must be firm towards improving your communication skills and practice daily. You should not get impatient and practice more and more to ace your communication skills.

Other than these, you should also develop a habit of getting real feedback from others and try to implement their suggestions.
