Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha attacks NDA ally Nitish Kumar amid reports of RLSP MLA joining JD(U)
(New Delhi, Nov 11, 2018):In the wake of reports indicating that Bihar MLA Sudhanshu Shekhar from the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) might join ranks with state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), RLSP chief and Union minister Upendra Kushwaha attacked Kumar at his alleged attempt to break RLSP.

Referring to past incidents of RJD and Congress leaders joining the JD(U). Kushwaha took a jibe at Kumar saying: “You (Kumar) are adept in breaking parties.”

Kushwaha also stated that he shall inform BJP president Amit Shah about the “humiliation” he was subjected to by the JD(U) supremo, according to PTI.

The RLSP leader hopes that an intervention from Shah would help in clearing the “confusion” over seat-sharing between the two parties who are the constituent members of the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the centre.

The speculation around RLSP MLA Shekhar future surfaced after he met JD(U) vice-president Prashant Kishor.

Kushwaha told reporters that he is seeking an appointment with the BJP president to clear the air around the issue. Kushwaha also said he met Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan and the latter agreed with him in demanding that seat-sharing talks should be held as soon as possible, and must involve all partners in the coalition.

Kushwaha has reportedly been unhappy with the BJP and JD(U) after the two parties decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections on an equal number of seats in Bihar, with the BJP hinting that it is not in a position to spare more than two seats for RLSP.

Kushwaha is also annoyed with the Bihar CM over the latter’s alleged “neech” remark during a TV programme about a week ago. RLSP supporters held a protest march on Saturday, demanding an apology from the chief minister.

“During my meeting with Shah, I intend to raise both the issues — seat sharing as well as the humiliation by Nitish Kumar,” Kushwaha was quoted as saying. Kushwaha has been reasserting that his party has an agreement only with the BJP and not with the JD(U).

“I also discussed the issue of seat-sharing with Paswan. He too was of the opinion that formal talks on seat-sharing, taking all NDA constituents in Bihar on board, ought to be held at the earliest in order to dispel confusion,” the RLSP chief was quoted as saying.

A former JD(U) leader himself, Kushwaha quit the party in 2013 and announced his own outfit. He had joined the NDA at a time when Kumar had called off its ties with the BJP.
